As a youngster, Dr. Wert loved spending time with family pets. He also loved studying science, and quickly realized that veterinary medicine was the perfect way to put those passions together! His appreciation for animals and love of puzzle-solving makes this career a natural choice for him.
Eric grew up in Alabama. During high school, he got a chance to come to the west to work as a river guide. He loved the area and ended up attending college at Washington State University for both his undergraduate and graduate degrees in veterinary medicine. He started at Blackhawk Veterinary Hospital as an Associate Veterinarian in 1999, then purchased the practice in 2001.
Medically, Dr. Wert likes surgery because it can solve a problem quickly. He’s also interested in mystery-solving using non-invasive diagnostic techniques—ultrasound and endoscopy are fun challenges for him!
Eric has been married for 30 years and has three daughters. Currently, he and his wife have three elderly cats: Ebony, Thomas, and Cookie. When Eric has time outside of work, he enjoys playing guitar, reading world history and watching college basketball.
Dr. Angela Lehman was born and raised in Spokane, Washington, where her love for the earth’s creatures blossomed early on. Ever since she can remember, she’s wanted to use her skills to better the lives of animals—Dr. Lehman gets to do just that as an Associate Veterinarian with the Blackhawk Veterinary Hospital team!
Dr. Lehman attended Washington State University for her veterinary schooling, moving with her husband to the western part of the state after graduation. After a few years spent living and working on the beautiful Kitsap Peninsula, the family moved back to Spokane. Now, Dr. Lehman works part-time here at Blackhawk Veterinary Hospital and also serves as a relief veterinarian at a number of veterinary clinics in and around Spokane.
When she isn’t tending to the area’s pets, Dr. Lehman enjoys reading, listening to music, cheering on her Washington State Cougars football team, exploring the great outdoor scenery of the Pacific Northwest, and spending time with her family at home. She and her husband, Rob, share their home with Raider, a mixed-breed puppy.
